C is for Card of the Day #atozchallenge

Until this year, I had never drawn a tarot card of the day. If you're on social media at all, you'll see dozens of them posted. I never touch my cards, really, unless I'm doing a reading. They're not part of my prayer work and I see them as tools for my job.

Beth Maiden, however, has been writing about pulling cards every day for ages. Since I never miss a word that that woman writes, it's been gnawing in my brain. Then I got this "Journal for Magical Babes" by Darla Antoine, and every day, it asks for a Daily Divination. Damnit.

I grabbed my first deck - a 1971 RWS deck that I just love - and started pulling a card a day. I don't know what I was expecting, but it's not what I got. I found that setting an intention and pulling a card helped me have a quiet beginning to the day. Instead of rushing out into the unknown, I actually used my tools for me. I don't read for myself, so this is a weird new thing for me.

I would pull the card and think about what it meant to me as a reader and then fit it into my life. Four of Swords - put your thoughts at rest. If I was having a stressful time that day, I'd try to think of what I could control and what I couldn't. I would decide what I was going to tackle and what got a free pass.

Sometimes, I'll be honest, it seemed like a huge cosmic Fuck You from the Universe. I'd see the King of Cups, encouraging me to keep my emotional self in control. That was the day that everything went wrong and I had a gigantic panic attack. Ha ha, very funny. I could have used a lot more emotional control but I just didn't have it in me.

I got the Three of Cups the morning I found out my old college roommate was visiting. Two of Swords when I needed to figure things out for myself. It's almost like choosing a lens through which to view your day.

I recommend this practice to everyone, really. It lends texture to your understanding of the cards and makes the day go a bit smoother.

And before you ask, I have no idea why I've never done this before. I'm pretty amazing, but not perfect. Yet. o.O
